This past Sunday, April 5, 2020, I stood at a window in the back of our house watching for the sun to come up.
My heart was heavy. "Jesus! Jesus!" I said.
Then, as if an answer to my plea, this chorus came immediately to mind:
Jesus, Jesus, Jesus,
Sweetest name I know.
Fills my every longing.
Keeps me singing as I go.
I looked up the lyrics and meditated on words from the old hymn. ("There’s Within my Heart a Melody," Luther B. Bridgers, 1910, public domain) That led me to the Scripture reading: Fear not, for I am with you. Be not dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you. I will help you, I will uphold you with My righteous right hand. (Isaiah 41:10) My closing prayer for this spontaneous sunrise service was: Thank You, God.
God knows our heart. He hears our prayers. We are not alone.
