When the dog barks. When someone comes to the door. When I’m sick. When I hear strange noises in the night. When I watch the news. Going to the dentist!
Having to step on the scales. When the electricity goes off. When the car won’t start. When it rains too much. When it doesn’t rain enough. When I’ve been betrayed. When my safety is threatened. When the roadways are icy. When my vision is blurry. When I don’t know what is going on. When the grocery store shelves are empty. When my clothes seem to “shrink.” When the days are evil. When I’ve left things undone. When a loved one is in trouble, is hurt, ill, or has made a poor decision. When someone dies. When a loved one is taken advantage of. Spiders! Ticks! Lyme’s disease! Lack! Suffering! Cooking for others – can they eat this? Carbs! Fats! Bears!
Taxes! IRS! Fender-benders! Insurance! Tornados! Floods! Tsunamis! Swim suits! Cataracts! Glaucoma! Pain! Aging! Knowing what to say! Knowing what to eat! Walking up stairs! A case of the what-ifs. The woulda, coulda, shouldas. The if-onlies!
When I’m misunderstood. When I have a bad dream. When I can’t sleep. When I have to go out. When I don’t meet a deadline. When more hair falls out. When I say the wrong thing. When someone makes fun of me. When the bills are lost in the mail. When I look in the mirror. When I consider my ways. When I think about the future. When I think about the past.
What time I am afraid, I will trust in Thee. (Psalm 56:3, KJV)
